The NBA regular season officially begins in 20 days, but fans of the Philadelphia 76ers are likely hoping it happens even sooner. The organisation has made some huge moves this offseason, adding two superstars to their core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.
First, they traded for Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, sending them Paul George in return. Then, in a move that might prove to be the biggest difference-maker in winning championship, the Sixers acquired the services of LeBron James. And an early glimpse into their future has fans thrilled.
Video showing Joel Embiid stealing the ball, leading to LeBron James-VJ Edgecombe alley-oop in practice goes viral
The best thing about the Sixers’ starting five is that it is quite balanced now. Maxey and James can provide the playmaking and the shot-creation. Brown and Edgecombe will bring athleticism and ability on both sides of the floor. And Joel Embiid can do everything at a high level if he is healthy.
An example of that came in practice as the team gears up for pre-season. One play the NBA’s official account shared showed Embiid stealing the ball which eventually resulted in a LeBron lob to VJ. Fans in the comments loved it.
“Everyone calling it practice but that lob was already planned before the steal even happened,” One fan observed. “The steal was nice, but that finish definitely got my attention,” another fan said.
“Philly fans might be in for a show this season!” a third fan claimed. “People saying VJ will be affected the most don’t know ball. Kid doesn’t need the ball to score. Gonna have a huge season,” wrote a fourth. Bron about to average a smooth like 18 and 12-13 this season,” a different comment predicted.
Fans have every reason to be excited, but any NBA team can look good in practice. The real hype won’t kick in until later in the month, when Philly open their season against the defending champion New York Knicks.
