Mikey Eyssimont was placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins on Sunday, giving the 28-year-old forward a few different possibilities for what comes next.
Another NHL team could claim him. If nobody does, Boston can send him to AHL Providence.
Eyssimont, who was born in Littleton, has never played for the Colorado Avalanche. Still, his Colorado ties make the move worth keeping an eye on from around the state.
The Bruins kept him on the roster coming out of camp, but he hasn't played yet this season. Eyssimont was a healthy scratch for Boston's first three games.
He did enough in the preseason to earn a spot, scoring twice on five shots and throwing four hits in two games.
The bigger reason he made the team, though, was due to an injury
Matt Poitras went down with a lower-body injury late in the preseason and started the year on injured reserve. That opened up a spot for Eyssimont that probably wouldn't have been there otherwise.
Now, with Poitras getting closer to returning to the main roster, there's not much of a need for Eyssimont. But there's other areas where the Bruins are desperate for help.
Boston could certainly use another option after losing 4-1 to Minnesota. The Bruins gave up two power-play goals in that game, while Sean Kuraly was on the ice for three goals against.
Poitras could also slide back into the center role Boston has talked about keeping him in. His three NHL games last season came between Tanner Jeannot and Mark Kastelic, Kuraly's usual spot.
Eyssimont is coming off a season in which he had eight goals and 18 points in 56 games. He also had 54 hits and 21 blocks.
He carries a $1.45 million cap hit, and now he'll have to wait to see what happens.
If a team claims him, he's off to a new NHL club. If not, he'll have the option of heading to Providence.
For now, the former Littleton player is just waiting on Monday's waiver results.
