Hugo Ekitike finally ready to give Andoni Iraola some good injury news

Liverpool suffered little luck when it came to injuries for their new signings last season.

They lost Giovanni Leoni on debut - with the Italian still on the sidelines more than a year later - while Alexander Isak suffered a broken leg.

On top of that they lost deputy goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for a period of time while Jeremie Frimpong was in and out of the team due to various injury knocks.

Hugo Ekitike absent since April

And the club suffered another gargantuan blow with the news that Hugo Ekitike would be absent for several months owing to an Achilles injury.

Back in April the 24-year-old went down against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League with his injury blow. The striker - who finished as the club’s top Premier League goalscorer in his debut season - subsequently missed the FIFA World Cup with France.

He is still on the sidelines with certain reports initially claiming that he would not make an appearance until 2027.

I'll be back soon says Ekitike

Now a report coming from the Liverpool Echo has put a clearer timeline on the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward’s recovery. Because it’s been stated that the £69m man will be RETURNING to training as soon as next month in November.

“Further reports in France this week have once more taken a positive outlook towards when Reds fans might be able to see Ekitike back in action, with a return to training believed to be targeted for November by the No.22,” the report reads.

Staff are thought to be impressed at how Ekitike is working towards a comeback - with the ex-PSG star ditching the crutches and returning to jogging work.

Liverpool name Ekitike in UEFA Champions League squad

And Andoni Iraola offered some clues as to when he thinks Ekitike will be back on the grass - naming the No11 in the club’s UEFA Champions League group phase squad.

The final game of that sequence comes in the last week of January - meaning Liverpool may expect Ekitike to be fit enough for European action before then.

Isak has started the season well but has been lumbered once again with an injury suffered on international duty. It would be a risk to rely on him all season long given his injury history and Liverpool will need Ekitike back sooner rather than later.
