Police in Chicago are investigating an alleged incident involving former Chicago Bears Super Bowl champion Otis Wilson during Sunday’s game at Soldier Field.

According to ESPN, the alleged incident occurred when Otis, 69, and his wife, Tina Wilson, tried to board an elevator on suite level A after the Bears beat the New York Jets.

Monterrey Security, which handles security for Bears home games, claims, however, that Otis was not wearing credentials when he attempted to enter the elevator and was asked “politely” by a female security officer to use a different lift. The company claims Otis then “forced his way onto the elevator” and attacked the female security officer.

“He aggressively threw the female officer into a wall,” the company said in a statement to ESPN, “leaving a large hole in the wall.”

Otis says it’s the other way around, telling the outlet that he and his wife had gotten on the elevator along with members of the media and that they were the ones “assaulted.” Otis also claims that his wife was “physically assaulted” after the security guard approached them.

ESPN shared its own account, noting that, per one of its reporters who was in the elevator at the time, Otis and his wife were the last two people on the elevator, which had been designated for media use only, when the female security guard asked them to leave, as reporters were trying to get downstairs to handle postgame coverage.

The outlet claims the female security officer made several requests for him to get off the elevator and told Otis that it would not leave until he stepped off, to which the former NFL star, who played with the Bears until his NFL retirement in 1989, reportedly agreed but did not move.

A second security officer, a male, stepped in to assist after the female officer had gotten on to remove Tina, who allegedly walked off. That’s when the alleged assault occurred.

“The elevator doors shut for several seconds, while ESPN reporters heard the sound of a forceful impact behind the doors. When the doors reopened on the same floor, ESPN reporters saw the female security officer on the ground next to the wall,” the outlet reported.

Both Otis and the female officer, who the outlet reports sustained “substantial bruising and injuries to her ribs and arms,” were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

In a statement to ESPN, Otis told the outlet that the treatment he received following the game Sunday was unacceptable.

“No one, whether a former player, a season ticket holder, or a first-time visitor, should ever be subjected to this kind of treatment at a public venue,” Otis said in the statement. “A misunderstanding about access to an area should never escalate to physical violence, least of all against a woman who posed no threat to anyone.”

Otis, who said he was working for the Bears in an official capacity as an ambassador Sunday, also made sure not to point the finger at the team, calling his relationship with the Bears and the city’s fans “as strong as ever.”

“This incident does not reflect the Bears organization or the people of Chicago. It reflects the conduct of specific individuals working for a private contractor, and that conduct must be addressed,” he continued before asking for a “full and transparent investigation” from both the Chicago Park District and Monterrey Security.

While Monterrey Security declined to provide video footage that they used to review the incident to ESPN, the outlet notes that both Otis and Monterrey Security said they will cooperate with law enforcement and any official review.
