Ahead of the New York Giants’ Week 5 matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, quarterback J.J. McCarthy was seen indulging in his pregame meditation routine on the sidelines as it poured heavily at Northwest Stadium in Maryland.

McCarthy’s pregame routine, which was a staple practice during his college football days with the Michigan Wolverines, involves meditating for 30-40 minutes every day in the morning, including a 10-minute session before the game.

When Was The Last Time J.J. McCarthy Played An NFL Game?

Despite starting his 2026 NFL season as a Minnesota Vikings player, quarterback J.J. McCarthy was traded to the New York Giants on Sept. 28 in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.

After a successful college football stint with Michigan, McCarthy was the 10th overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft. However, injuries marred the quarterback’s time on the field, so much so that the last time he played in the league was on January 4, 2026, during the Vikings’ 16-3 win over the Green Bay Packers.

With Giants star quarterback Jaxson Dart out with an injury, McCarthy currently serves as the franchise’s second-string quarterback behind starter Jameis Winston. It remains to be seen if the former Wolverines star gets his first start in Giants colors today against the Commanders.
