Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has never lacked confidence, and he made that clear again ahead of Sunday’s Week 5 showdown with the Indianapolis Colts. During a media session in the Steelers’ locker room, Metcalf was asked what he has to be mindful of when going up against Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner.
His answer was a single word. “Who?” Metcalf said.
When the reporter repeated the question, Metcalf kept the focus squarely on himself. “Winning my matchup,” he said. “I don’t worry about what a DB does well. They gotta guard me.”

The clip spread quickly online, and it adds fuel to a matchup that already has some history behind it. Metcalf and Gardner have crossed paths three times, with Gardner suiting up for the New York Jets in each meeting.
Before the 2025 season opener, Gardner said on “Up & Adams” that the two “don’t even talk” and suggested he knew how to get under Metcalf’s skin. Metcalf responded with four catches for 83 yards in Pittsburgh’s 34-32 win at MetLife Stadium.
Gardner has since changed teams. The Jets traded the two-time first-team All-Pro to Indianapolis in November 2025 for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and two first-round picks. He has four pass breakups through four games this season.
Metcalf, meanwhile, is coming off his best outing of the year. He caught five passes for 115 yards in a 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football in Week 4, including several key grabs on the game-tying drive. That performance followed a shaky start that included multiple drops over the first three weeks.
There is plenty riding on Sunday for both sides. The Steelers and Colts are each 2-2, with Indianapolis riding a two-game winning streak after beating the Houston Texans 19-17 and the Washington Commanders 30-13 in London.
Aaron Rodgers has thrown seven touchdown passes for Pittsburgh this season, six of them in the last two weeks, and Metcalf will be a big part of how the Steelers attack an Indianapolis secondary led by Gardner.
After Metcalf’s comments, every rep between the two will be under a microscope when the teams kick off at 1 p.m. ET at Acrisure Stadium.
