EMERALD RIDGE 56, EASTLAKE 28
Emerald Ridge has plenty of capable ball carriers. Their styles vary: shifty, bruising, quick, powerful and contact-seeking.
But none are as electric with the ball in their hands as Tre Robinson.
Whether it was a race to the edge or flashing legit breakaway speed by turning a small gap into a long touchdown run, Eastlake had no answer for Emerald Ridge’s talented junior back on Friday night at Sparks Stadium in the Round of 32 playoffs.
Robinson finished two yards shy of the school’s rushing record in a 56-28 win, racking up 274 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
“It feels great,” Robinson said. “Just trust. Trust in my coaches, teammates, everybody around me, puts us in a great, great place.”
Emerald Ridge piled up 515 yards on the ground. Quintin Gardley rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Moose Amosaia rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Emerald Ridge’s newfound success in the first year running the Wing-T with Torey Donovan was on display. It was a change in the offseason from Emerald Ridge’s high-flying passing offenses, which led to the school’s best success just a few years prior under former quarterback Jake Schakel.
“I was definitely shocked because, you know, the past years we had a lot of passing schemes,” Robinson said. “So, I was definitely shocked, and practice came, I just had to trust in my coaches.”
It hasn’t hummed perfectly every week, but the team sits at 8-2 and will play in the Class 4A state tournament next week after Friday night’s win. That’s a far cry from the 2-8 record the Jaguars sported in 2025.
“I’m excited for them, just for all the hard work they’ve been putting in,” Donovan said. “And we’ve been talking about it all year, we feel like early on in the year, we should have put some scores like that up on other teams. Our offense is starting to click and the more we keep pushing, I think the sky’s the limit for our offense.”
And if Robinson keeps running the ball the way he did on Friday night, two things could happen. First, some college offers might start coming and second, Emerald Ridge has the chance to play spoiler in next week’s state tournament opening round.
“He’s special,” Donovan said. “Nobody knows, but he’s a next-level guy. He’s got breakaway speed, he runs hard and he’s hard to take down.”
