Now, it's left-handed pitcher Ranger Suarez, who was placed on the injured list on July 9 with a groin injury he suffered on July 6. In his first season with the Red Sox, Suarez has a 4-3 record while leading the team with a 3.15 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 17 starts.
Boston has dealt with injury stints to ace Garrett Crochet, who has yet to return, along with Sonny Gray, who missed a month earlier in the season. This time, with the Red Sox surging, one of their stars will now miss some time.
Here are the latest updates on Suarez's injury and his projected return date.
Ranger Suarez injury updates
On July 9, Boston announced that Suarez will be placed on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain, calling up Brett Harris from Triple-A Worcester in his absence.

Suarez initially exited his July 5 start against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning after experiencing tightness in his left adductor while fielding a comebacker. With the move to the IL, the newly minted American League All-Star will miss his scheduled start this Saturday against the New York Mets and will be sidelined for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia.
Suarez spoke to the media after being placed on the injured list, saying he is "sad" he won't be able to take part in the All-Star Game — especially with it being in Philadelphia — but hopes it will open a spot for his teammate Sonny Gray, per MLB.com's Ian Browne. Suarez does not expect to make the trip at all, planning to stay in Boston for treatment.
How long is Ranger Suarez out?
Suarez will be out through the All-Star break for Boston, with his earliest return date July 21. His injured list stint is retroactive to July 6, meaning he will miss at least two turns in the rotation—his scheduled start this Saturday against the New York Mets and Boston's first game out of the break.

While the club has not provided an exact timetable for his return beyond the minimum 15 days, the timing of the All-Star break limits the number of games he will actually miss if he is ready to be activated as soon as he becomes eligible.
