Fabrizio Romano confirms contract green light; Surprise Liverpool deal imminent
· Yahoo Sports
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the green light from the player. Now a major Liverpool deal is imminent.
Liverpool have a lot of business to get through at the end of the transfer window here. The Reds have left things late, very late, and will need to rush things.

It’s not just signings, either. There are sales to be done as the squad is littered with players who don’t appear to have a future at the club. And then there’s the big one.
Cody Gakpo has started the season very, very brightly and scored a fantastic goal against Newcastle United last weekend. He’s followed that with an equally-brilliant assist for Alexander Isak against Nottingham Forest and there’s no question that the Dutchman has been Liverpool’s best forward thus far.
And yet, he’s probably getting sold and to Manchester City of all places. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the rumours, saying that Gakpo has green-lit a five-year contract with the club.

Now all that remains is Liverpool signing off on it all - which is expected to happen if they get a signing or two across the line. Bradley Barcola likely completes his move later today, which might be enough to see Gakpo depart.
Alternatively, Liverpool may want to sign a winger for the right as well as Barcola before letting their player go.
The positive thing here is that Liverpool will receive an awful lot of money for Gakpo. It should be in the region of £85m and while that certainly won’t cover the Barcola fee, it might go a long way to covering the right-wing signing.
Exactly who that might be isn’t very clear. Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh have been linked, though they’re each very expensive for what they are.
This is all moving quickly, then. Liverpool should announce at least one day today and Gakpo may make it two.
