Mike Vrabel picked up a major penalty in the New England Patriots’ narrow win against the Buffalo Bills, and he addressed the situation with the official after the game.

The New England Patriots bounced back from a disappointing few games with a 29-26 win against the Buffalo Bills. Drake Maye had come under fire for his performances to start the season, but he roared back with a three-touchdown display in the team’s latest victory.

Head coach Mike Vrabel has shown supreme belief in his quarterback throughout his tough spell. He is known for getting overly passionate at times, and it cost his team during the Bills win. If New England hadn’t managed to claim victory eventually, this could have become a huge talking point.

Mike Vrabel called the referee who gave him a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct ‘a little sensitive’

With less than two minutes left in the second quarter, Vrabel was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after cursing at an official over a defensive holding call on Marcus Jones. This moved Buffalo to the 6-yard line with a first down. Josh Allen scored a 2-yard rushing TD about a minute later, tying the game.

The head coach addressed the situation after the game, seeming fairly bemused by the penalty he had received.

“I told him that was a terrible ‘effing’ call,” Vrabel said. “I’ve said that 87 times since I’ve been a head coach. It was nothing derogatory. You’d have to ask him, I think he was a little sensitive. Once I get the word from upstairs that we felt like it wasn’t a good call…

“I probably shouldn’t have swore. But I can tell you in my history of being on the sidelines as a head coach, I’ve said that. And I apologise to him. My players responded, and it was unfortunate. I have to be better in those moments.”

This is a holistic approach to the situation from the Patriots boss. Vrabel may be quite passionate at times, but he is never one to be out of control. For now, the win will do a lot to soothe what he seemingly thinks wasn’t a great call from the official.
