Van Dijk's international future had been cast into doubt following the coaching change, with Ronald Koeman stepping down after the recent FIFA World Cup, compounded by the player having turned 35 in July.
Despite this uncertainty, the defender felt he still had a contribution to make ahead of his meeting with Xavi, stating recently, via the Liverpool Echo: "I feel that I can still be valuable and important to the team.
"If we see eye to eye on that, we have two good years ahead of us leading up to Euro 2028. And if not, then we'll see."
Xavi traveled to Anfield to watch Van Dijk help Liverpool defeat Atlético Madrid last week in their Champions League opener, and held discussions with the center-back.
